More things to see and do in and around Weymouth
Weymouth Town Centre
Weymouth's wonderful mix of high street names as well as individual boutiques and speciality shops offers something for everyone - and all within easy walking distance of our bed & breakfast. So, whether you are an avid shopper or someone who prefers a quiet and leisurely browse, you shouldn't be disappointed.
The heart of Weymouth's shopping area is St Mary Street and St Thomas Street, both of which have been pedestrianised to make your shopping experience more relaxing. Just off St Thomas Street is the New Bond Street development, which is home to Debenhams, a large New Look fashion store, a multiplex cinema and many other shops. St Alban Street, which runs towards the seafront, is a beautiful old fashioned shopping street adorned with bunting and lined with curiosity and souvenir shops.
Another popular part of town is Westham Road, where you can find many interesting shops including the ever popular Wilkinsons. Next to the railway station is the Jubilee Retail Park where you will find B&Q, Comet, Powerhouse, Matalan and other retailers.
Brewers Quay
Across the other side of Weymouth's historic Old Harbour is Brewers Quay, a unique shopping village set in the paved courtyards and cobbled streets of a redeveloped Victorian brewery. Brewers Quay is packed with shops dedicated to arts and crafts, collectables, china, glass and all things nautical. The Village Store has one of the most extensive ranges of real ales in the region, along with country wines and liqueurs, all complemented by fine cheeses, pasties and pies from the delicatessen and jams, chutneys and sauces from the Dorset area. It is also home to a restaurant, pub, various visitor attractions and its very own micro brewery carrying on 600 years of tradition on the site.
Local Markets
Weymouth holds a massive open air market every Thursday between 8am and 3pm on the Swannery Car Park, which is close to Radipole Lake RSPB Reserve and just a short walk from our B&B. During the summer season there is also a Monday market on the Swannery Car Park as well as an open-air market and car boot sale at Bowleaze Coveway, also on a Monday. For those of you wanting to sample some of the county's best produce, why not visit the Farmers Market held on Westham Bridge in Weymouth on the second Sunday of each month between 10am and 3pm.
The county town of Dorchester holds its historic open and covered market every Wednesday from 8am until 3pm, including the popular Farmers Market offering organic and locally grown produce. On Sunday mornings there is also a large car boot sale in Dorchester between 8am and 1pm.
Throughout the summer season there is a large market with free parking every Tuesday on the Isle of Portland. A free and 'almost free' bus service operates from Weymouth to the Portland Tuesday Market from bus stop K7 by the King's Statue on the Esplanade.
