Sceninc Walks in Dorset

The South West Coast Path is Britain's longest National Trail and is arguably the most varied and attractive. It starts at Minehead in Somerset and runs right around Cornwall and along the South Devon and Dorset coast to South Haven Point near Poole in Dorset.

The Path is 630 miles long and includes all 95 miles of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage coastline. The path provides beautiful views seen only by those who walk. It leads on to magnificent beaches far from crowded car parks and reveals secret coves and almost forgotten fishing villages. There are abandoned mines, Iron Age hill forts and other defensive sites with dates up to World War II.

Discover more about the South West Coast Path at the official website or the website for the South West Coast Path Association.

For alternative ways to explore the World Heritage Coast there are other options on the Jurassic Jaunts Website.

We are members of the South West Coast Path Association and we are able to provide drying facilities if you have been walking in wet conditions.

Sceninc Walks in Dorset

Our Weymouth bed & breakfast is only a 500 metre walk from the Coast Path and provides an ideal base to explore what has been described as "some of the finest coastal scenery in Europe".

Another main walking route is "The Hardy Way" which, as the name suggests, is a walk for lovers of Thomas Hardy as it visits many of the settings for his novels. The 213-mile walk starts at his birthplace in Higher Bockhampton near Dorchester and then proceeds through the Piddle and Frome valleys. It joins the Dorset coast between Lulworth Cove and the Encombe Valley and then goes on to Corfe Castle and Dorchester before coming to rest in Stinsford Church where Thomas Hardy's heart is buried.
